Today I like to introduce the practice of yoga Nidra. Many of you are very familiar with yoga, different kinds of yogas probably the most well known is hatha yoga. This Yoga is a little bit different. This is what is called or known as psychic sleep. Yoga Nidra is a very ancient yogic practice. I was introduced to yoga Nidra by my beloved teacher, Swami Sunyta Saraswati. After deepening my studies into different healing modalities and energy practices, I restarted my studies and my practice of yoga Nidra with Swami Divyananda Saraswati. She's a very sweet, loving, magnificent teacher, I am very fortunate and blessed to have found her in my path is not easy to find appropriate and good teachers to be willing to share their knowledge, their love, and their compassion with the students. But let's go back to what it is Yoga Nidra as I said is a very ancient yogic practice very well known with Yogis that are in a more advanced path. Yoga Nidra created a deep, profound state of relaxation and awareness at the same time. Yoga Nidra helps you regenerate and repair the cells of your physical body. During the practice of yoga Nidra, the brain waves activities slow the alpha and the theta waves inducing a deep state of relaxation, reducing anxieties, improving sleep, promoting healing. I have found in my practice, that it doesn't matter at what time I practice yoga Nidra could be early in the morning or middle of the afternoon. But that night, I have a very profound deep regenerating sleep that is not comparable to anything else. So many times we hear we need I need my beauty sleep. Well let me tell you, yoga Nidra will do that. It is a very profound deep sleep that really regenerates the cells, the mental, emotional body. So why not try it right. Yoga Nidra may be practiced by anyone. It does not require physical movement does not require any kind of physical movements like asanas or vinyasas like in your regular yoga. And the best thing of all it can be done by people of all ages.
Sonia 4.57: It doesn't matter if you are 90 years old, or if you're 10 years old, it can be done by anyone. There are very few requirements for yoga Nidra actually, you need a place where you can lie down undisturbed, in quiet, comfortable, maybe you have like a yoga mat. So it will not hurt your back. You need maybe a pillow to sustain your head and blanket so you don't get cold. If you cannot lie on a mat, you may lie on your bed, it doesn't matter. And it is preferable that you practice Yoga Nidra lying down. Yoga Nidra meditation is very profound and deep. And you need to have your body sustained at all times to avoid maybe, you know bending or if you're sitting on a chair and you're not accustomed to long meditations, you feel like you're not comfortable. So, it is preferable that you lie down in a place where you feel sustained at all times. As you lie down, you just follow the voice of the instructor No need for concentration or thinking about what is your next step, you only need to just feel support and be completely relax. Yoga Nidra is a guided practice you will not be thinking or wondering within your mind. Yoga Nidra derives from the tantras, it is a powerful relaxation, your awareness will be increasing, you will be totally relaxed, but completely aware of your body and mind. The meaning of yoga Nidra in Sanskrit comes from two words yoga, which means one-pointed awareness, or union Nidra which means sleep and there you have Yoga Nidra the psychic sleep, your body is totally still your mind totally aware. Yoga Nidra is one of the aspects of the raja yoga of Patanjali called pratyahara where the mind and mental awareness are dissociated from the sensory channels. These are words from Swami Satyananda Saraswati and as I told you, I was introduced to yoga Nidra, from my beloved teacher, Swami Sunyata Saraswati. Things have changed quite a bit since I met Sunyata. My spiritual path has deepening getting profound teachings from different schools of thought.
Always going back to my main purpose, which is to help as much as I possibly can to reach global awareness. I am totally aware that I'm not a master teacher, like Sunyata Saraswathi or Swami Satyananda, or Sadguru. My goal and my purpose are not to be a famous person in this world. I'm totally aware of who I am in the position that I have in the world. But no matter what I will continue to follow my directions and why I came to this world. My main purpose is to reach even if it's one person if I'm able to just make a difference even for only one of you. I will feel happy and fulfill
Sonia 9.59: it is only through love, compassion, and awareness of what we really are as beings of eternal light. That we can achieve peace, joy, and understanding. And I consider myself completely blessed by the grace of our Creator, every time, I think there is no more learning for me or that I have reached a point of stasis; a point where I cannot keep ongoing. A wonderful teacher is presented to me. In the vast ocean of love and spiritual knowledge, I feel really totally blessed. Even if I am only a drop in this ocean, all my spiritual needs are meet, letting me advance to help others. This gives me immense joy.
To think that in a world with billions of people with maybe even more knowledge, more I am sure, more knowledge and more advanced spiritually, people and teachers, of all races, all kinds of teachers, in every part of this world, in every part of the globe, I'm able to just help and to also be able to receive from teachers from different parts of the world, to receive from them what I need to advance, to advance spiritually and to advance to help whoever wants to hear my voice. This is such a gift, such a joy. That makes me really happy. I have no words to explain to you the feelings of love. I have. And this is the reason why I have decided to start to teach yoga Nidra. It is a very profound teaching. But it's so simple. Without being simplistic, that anyone can start and start widening their horizons in the vast ocean of awareness.
